From Denial and Anger to Acceptance and Joy -
I made glass cones over a few years as I worked through grief.
Today I feel gratitude and recognize my abundant life!
The cones lived on my studio's light table as I sorted through my emotions. When I recovered metal from a close friend's property that burned in Camarillo's wildfire, I immediately saw a way to resurrect the burned metal. The combination makes total sense to me.
The cones included in T R A N S F O R M A T I O N (Denial, Anger, Bargaining, Depression and Acceptance) are mounted on heavy metal bases that were originally speaker drivers. They perfectly support the glass.
MUSIC AS MUSE
Ojai Art Center Gallery
May 31 - June 26
Reception: June 7 4 - 6 pm DURING OJAI MUSIC FESTIVAL
Music got me through puberty. I played the piano from a very young age and continued until more interesting things took place in high school. I still own my parent's Knabe grand piano built at the turn of the 20th century. (In fact, I made a light fixture using the original hammers after rebuilding the action).
Hearing is my strongest sense. Music and sound deeply affect me. In researching what sound waves look like in order to duplicate them in glass shades for speaker cones I recovered from the Mountain Fire, I got hooked.
From visualizing music note A4's 440 Hz frequency to the 7 chakra's healing frequencies - I've gone down the rabbit hole with my glassmaking.
Fun Fact: The international standard to tune instruments is set to 440 Hz. That's the A note above middle C on the piano. There is some disagreement in the New Age genre that says tuning should be to 432 Hz. I think I'll see what 432 Hz looks like!
